I’ve been working on my bedroom little by little, and this is the first of many DIY’s to come. My mom gave me this bookshelf when she moved because I’ve been saying that I need a new TV stand, but with everything being as expensive as it is, I needed to do a DIY.
If you remember this was on my June TO-DO list, and here’s me getting to it.
What you’ll need:
- White paint
- Hand broom
- Paint tray
- Roll paint brush
- Regular or small paint brush
All in all I think this project cost me just over R100, without the bits on the bookshelf and the bookshelf itself, as that was gifted to me. That’s pretty darn cheap for any big focal furniture piece.

Right Hand side has two coats of paint and the left has one. I used the small paintbrush to paint the corners and the roll brush for the rest.

The completed bookshelf after 3 or 4 coats, and drying in between coats.

Now for the styling:

This was a super easy project and it can be done over a weekend or a few evening’s after work, as I did. If you compare what the bookshelf looked like before a fresh lick of paint, I’d say that’s a successful DIY. I’m going for a very Scandinavian, white or rather monochrome with greenery look. Just adding this bookshelf really changes my room and makes it look more fresh, with the white walls, bedding and now the bookshelf.
Please let me know if you do a DIY similar to this, if you want to see a specific project and if you liked this one.
