Sun Protection with Eau Thermal Avène

Sun Protection with Eau Thermal Avène

By now we all know I’m a winter baby but I’m learning that the joys of summer really do outweigh the negatives. For instance, I love chilling in or around the pool with friends or reading a great book but I hate getting clammy and sweaty. So summer during the week when I have to wear real clothes and not be near a large body of water is a big no but summer on the weekends roaming around in my high-waisted bikini at the pool is a hell yes!

Me being me, I will inevitably burn at least once in summer because I haven’t reapplied SPF post cooling dip in the pool but this year I don’t plan to carry on that tradition.

Recently Eau Thermale Avène sent over a wonderful range of their newly reformulated SPF products for face & body. If you’ve seen my unboxing over on my Instagram stories (follow me on IG) you’ll know how excited I get about new sun care products and Avène has given me even more reason to be excited about these.

Eau Thermale Avène have been working tirelessly since 2013 to create more eco-friendly products and the newest formula is made with ingredients that have less environmental impact, aren’t water-soluble and are silicone-free for better biodegradability. And as someone that’s trying to reduce my impact on the environment by reducing my intake of single use plastics, choosing reusable over convenient and shopping smart it makes me so happy to see brands like Avene doing their part.

In case you don’t know, all Avène products are made for sensitive skin and formulated with their miracle product, the Thermal Spring Water, which is incredibly soothing and calming for reactive and sensitised skins. They also have a large range of products that can be used for the entire family from infants to adults. Read more about that here. I’ve raved about and loved their products for many years so anyone that’s struggling with skin irritations or reactions I tell them to try Avène products. So when I say I love and trust this brand, I mean it, because more often than not I’m recommending Avene to friends & family. If there are any Avène products you absolutely swear by please leave them in the comments, I always like hearing what you guys are using and loving.

So let’s talk products. I unfortunately can’t speak to the children’s range because I don’t have any of my own to test them on but you can check out Chereen, Aisha & Shanèy’s blog posts for more on that.

Eau Thermale Avène SPF50+ Face Cream (R240)

This product has been reformulated to include two antioxidants (Thialidine & Pre-tocopheryl), ingredients that are eco-friendly and boasts a velvety texture. If like me, you have dry to very dry skin this is going to be a great product for you as it doesn’t leave your skin feeling tight or sticky. I’ve been applying this over my regular moisturiser, waiting for it to fully sink in and then going in with makeup. Fyi, it does have a slight white cast when you initially apply it but once it’s fully absorbed my skin goes back t it’s normal tone.

If you have normal to combination or oily skin and you’re after something more magnifying give the SPF 50+ Fluid a go.

Eau Thermale Avène SPF 50+ Body Lotion (R310)

The new Sunsitive Triple combination provides broadspectrum UVB-UVA sun protection while still hydrating your skin for up to 6 hours. Because my skin is basically reptilian I’ve previously I’ve had to choose between soft supple skin and sun protection but with this product I can finally combine them without feeling sticky and dry.

Eau Thermale Avène SPF 50+ Spray (R300)

I know a spray SPF is the ultimate mom-hack to actually getting sun protection on kiddo’s before they run off but to be honest, I don’t have any kids and I live for this sort of product on beach or pool days! Because this is made with the Thermal Spring Water it’s extremely hydrating & comfortable and doesn’t leave white marks on the skin. I used this over the weekend when we had a little braai and swim with friends – I applied this and less than 10 minutes later jumped in the pool and there was no siff layer on the water around me so I can fully attest to this being water-resistant. Another great new feature is the open/close nozzle twist which means no messing or fussing with plastic bottle caps (another eco-friendly alternative).

Another great initiative by Avène’s Skin Protect, Ocean Respect pledge, is that R10 of every Avène Sun Care product sold from November to December 2019 will be donated towards turtle conservation initiatives along the Southern African coast in partnership with White Pearl Resorts. Hint hint, there might be a really cool competition for one of you to win a holiday so keep an eye out on my Instagram.

I’ll be testing out these sun care products over November/December and doing mini reviews on my Instagram so make sure to follow me there for more updates.

You can find Avène in-store & online at Clicks, Dischem & Dermastore. If you need recommendations on products I love and trust simply search ‘Avène’ on my blog.
