This is the foundation & primer duo I’ve been completely obsessed with recently and I don’t think I’ve ever had this many compliments and questions about my foundation routine. So this is the long awaited post where I spill the beans about my glowing skin.
You guys know my lifetime skincare goal is to have glowing, healthy, hydrated skin at all times. I mean I’ve said this way too much but obviously that starts with skincare and since I feel like I have a good routine at the moment (will talk more about that in tomorrow’s video), let’s move onto makeup, and more importantly foundation.
This is an interesting combo for me because I would usually apply primer first and then go in with foundation, but I tried mixing it with foundation & I love it! I think the combo of the Primer Oil (R500.00) mixed with the Smashbox Studio Skin (R495.00) makes for my perfect level of glow & coverage. I like something between light & medium with a good healthy glow without looking like I’ve run 10km… who am I kidding, 5km! I honestly feel like I’ve found my perfect combo.
One thing I’ve noticed when mixing these on the back of my hand is that the foundation does oxidise but not so much that I look like an Umpa Lumpa. I guess it does help that I blend this in with a damp beauty sponge because that does tend to add an extra bit of hydration & decreases the coverage slightly.
As the day progresses I actually find that the foundation settles into my skin a bit more. It still has a glow but doesn’t start to look sweaty around 1pm, which I must say, most illuminating foundations often tend to do. I’ve been wearing this combo for a good month & a bit and haven’t once seen it break-up or collect around my nose.
I have normal – dry skin and this is combo delivers the perfect amount of glow and coverage that I’m looking for, for daily use. I think the foundation would be a good option for oily skinned ladies because it’s oil free but I’d definitely say make sure to set the t-zone . I don’t use any translucent/setting powder with this foundation besides underneath my eyes. I also love the way other cream and powder products apply over this foundation – they just blend in seamlessly.
So if you’re battling dry winter skin & need something more hydrating on the foundation front or if you’re simply in the market for a good foundation, give this a go. If you want to see how this combo applies watch my Smashbox One Brand Makeup video.
*Word to the wise: Woolworths is currently giving you 10% off any foundations & primers.
Have any of you tried this? What do you think of it?

Quick question, would this work with another range of foundation from Smashbox? Recently bought the Smashbox Liquid Halo HD Foundation for R243 a bottle on Foschini for beauty online store (score).
Finally caved and bought the oil / still need to recap your video on how many pumps to use. lol
The primer could me mixed with any foundation, doesn’t even have to be a Smashbox one!
I mix it with any foundation that I feel needs more of a glow!
Yoh, that’s a really good bargain!!! 🙂
Have you bought the primer oil? x
