I’ve briefly spoken about these in my May favourites and my honeymoon makeup tutorial but I think it’s definitely worth sharing more about these Clinique Chubby Plump & Shine Glosses. I’ve been surprised at how much I’ve loved the last few releases from Clinique – they’ve really stepped up their game! These are unlike anything in my makeup collection, granted I wasn’t hugely into glosses up until recently but they really are lovely.
My main gripe with most glossy lip products is that they’re sticky & gloopy and I honestly just can’t stand that, so I went into this thinking I was going to hate them. To my surprise I feel the exact opposite and these have been a firm favourite for May & June. Now on to the more in-depth review.
PACKAGING: True to the brand the packaging is simple & effective, which is I’ve come to expect and love from the Clinique. The plastic tube displays the colour of the product (which I love), the shade name and a handy new twist mechanism to disperse the product. For me, this is a throw in your handbag & go product and they’ve definitely kept that in mind with the packaging – it won’t leek, melt or ooze product.
SCENT: From what I can tell there is absolutely no scent to these which is something I was expecting actually. I think that’s mainly because my experience with glossy lip products is that they’re usually quite heavily scented. They also don’t taste like anything.
FORMULA: These have a high shine, gloss finish and are somewhat sticky but nowhere near what regular gloss products feel like. They each have a slight amount of tint but are definitely not opaque in anyway. As for the plumping, by nature as a glossy finish they do make your lips look more juicy but they don’t have any plumping technology – you know the kind that tingle and kinda makes your lips look like a botch filler job.
WEAR: Being a gloss, these were never going to have a long wear time but I’m surprised at tint leaves leaves on my lips once the gloss has faded. For the nude shades I don’t really see it but the darker/brighter shades definitely leave a tint on the lips. This is a top up product but as I said, it’s perfect to just toss in your bag & apply without a mirror. These are also kind of moisturising, not overly but they do a good job.
RECOMMENDATIONS: I personally love layering these over lip products just for a glossy finish but they are also beautiful on their own. There are eight shades in the collection and my favourites are Jumbo Jem, Normous Nude & Va Va Violet.
You can buy these for R290 each at Clinique, Edgars, Red Square & Foschini For Beauty.

Great post. Although i’ll probably stick to my Smashbox glosses cos I’m not a fan of the ‘sticky texture either. Love the redesign of the blog! xx
Glad you enjoyed this review 🙂
I promise, these are honestly so lovely! They’ve converted me to glossy lip products!! 🙂
