Believe me when I say that I wanted to put up this post half way through November but I thought it might be a little bit too early! So I thought the first week of December would be more fitting. I don’t know about you but around Christmas time I love wearing a red lip as much as possible so I thought I would put together a few options for you guys. There are a few different forum’s and finishes, to suit your needs.
I think red lipstick looks great with a very simple look – just mascara, bronzer, beautiful skin & brows. The red just adds a pop of colour which is great for a work day or a casual weekend afternoon.
Clinique Pop x Jonathan Adler lipstick + primer in Capri Pop (R295) – This is a great option if you’re not a fan of matte lipsticks but you still want intense pigment. The formula has a satin finish, is super comfortable on the lips and packs a good opaque pigment. Anything that’s not matte would need reapplication throughout the day but atleast it won’t dry out your lips. This has more of a pink undertone rather than blue or cherry red.
Smashbox Be Legendary Liquid Metal Lipstick in Crimson Chrome (R330) – This is honestly the perfect lip for those of you that like to make a statement with your makeup and especially your lipstick. It honestly the perfect shade of red with a little bit of fun because it’s metallic. I think this would be great for a late night Christmas party or even if you want to spice things up on Christmas Day. I haven’t quite plucked up the courage to wear this yet but I love the finish of it!
Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick in Bawse (R330) – I’m making a bold statement when I say that this is my absolute favoruite red lipstick. It has taken the place of beloved MAC Ruby Woo (see more below) because it sticks around like nothing else and my lips surprisingly feel moisturized after removing it. The applicator makes this so easy to apply and even if you want to over draw your lips it’s possible without a lip liner. It’s a wonderful blue-toned red, that sticks around for 8+ hours and has insane pigment.
MAC Matte Lipstick in Ruby Woo (R240) – If you’ve been following me for years you’ll know the full extent of my love for this lipstick. It’s another beautiful blue-toned red, that’s next level matte, also lasts for hours and pretty much looks good on every skin tone. If you’re super pale or have a deeper skin tone this is the red that I’d happily recommend to anyone.
LOV Cosmetics Lip Affair in Christina’s Red – This has a cherry red undertone with a satin finish and is perfect for this of you that are on a budget. It’s very comfortable on the lips but obviously needs to be reapplied consistently to have the best effect.
Smashbox Be Legenary Liquid Pigment in Bad Apple (R330) – I love that you get that very classic red lip look with this, because it has a glossy effect. If you’re a fan of wearing gloss but still want an opaque red, (which is hard to come by) this is the one for you. I love the Smashbox lip products and although I’m more of a matte red lipstick girl, I’m excited to try this out for Christmas.
