This is a trend I haven’t been into since the early 2000’s when the uber glossy rollerball, wet-look lips were a thing. That’s not a look I’d like to revisit but I have been seriously into my glossy lips recently but definitely in a more classy way than my 8 year old self.
For those that have been following my blog for a while you will know that some of my favourite lipsticks are mostly matte formulas so it must take something special for me to switch to glossy. If you’re keen to try out some glossy lip products but not sure what’s worth your time, I’ll be reviewing my four favourite glossy lip products.
This is the product that changed it all for me! Just before our wedding Clinique sent over a wonderful package filled with these new chubby sticks and this is the only lip product I took on my honeymoon. They’re moisturising, give a slight tinted to the lips and can easily be applied without a mirror. These are different to previous chubby sticks because it has a crew cap which disperses product from the plastic applicator. There are 8 shades in the range that go from bright coral, cherry red & even shimmering violet (sounds horrid but it’s beautiful!). Being a gloss these do need reapplication but as they fade they leave a slight tint on the lips & a moisturised feel. Also, don’t expect any serious plumping but naturally a gloss makes the lips look more plump. Honestly it’s the perfect throw in your handbag, everyday lipgloss.
I’ve been wearing this lipgloss nonstop for the last month or so and I have a serious obsession with this at the moment. It’s the first proper lipgloss I’ve used in years and it turns out I love it. These are extremely opaque, the shade is, in my opinion, the perfect mix of pinky, browny, nude & the gloss sticks around for a good few hours. Once the gloss has faded my lips are left with a lovely tint. Yes it’s sticky, sometimes gets caught on my snuggle tooth & it gets stuck to my hair but I still love it. The applicator has a pointed tip which makes for easy application & works perfectly for the cupids bow and corners of the mouth. It also looks a hell of a lot more expensive than it is and I always get compliments when I wear this.
When I was rounding up my favourites for this blog post I almost forgot this because I’ve tucked it away in fear of using it too quickly. That’s how much I love it! These have little to no tint but pack a punch in the gloss & moisture department. I love to use these over the top of lipliners or even matte lipsticks. What I love most about these is the scent (I constantly want to lick my lips) & the applicator of dreams. I don’t know how Clarins have done it but they’ve legit created the best applicator I’ve ever felt! It feels like a cloud or baby skin. These are great for no makeup days or if your lips need some extra moisture & a slight tint. I just love these, they’re great!
I genuinely wasn’t expecting to love this as much as I do because MAC glosses have been around for years and I’ve never felt the least bit drawn to them. I will happily admit that the packaging was the initial attraction for me but after using it a couple of times I really love the formula. This has a very slight peachy tint which I love for summer or days where I’m wearing a minimal makeup look. Out of the glosses I’ve spoken about, this fades the quickest.
This was added because I can’r speak about lip products without mentioning a good lip balm. Some of these glosses are super moisturising but others dry out my lips so I use this lip balm every morning & evening. This lip balm is a really thick almost waxy balm which sinks in overnight or while I’m doing my makeup in the morning. I personally think it’s too thick to wear during the day underneath other lip products but it’s perfect as an overnight balm. I apply this before I go to bed & by the morning my lips feel super soft and ready for any lip product.
So if you’ve been interested in trying out glossy lip products I hope this has helped to narrow down the list. Also, a quick benefit of gloss is that it makes your teeth look whiter.
Let me know if you buy any of these or if you have a favourite gloss – I’d love to try some others.
