This is a quick & super informative review of the L’Oréal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation. So I had my sister buy this for me in the U.S and we just took a guess with the shade but it turns out that N3.5 is my perfect shade – YASS!
First off L’Oréal describes this foundation as sheer to medium coverage with a luminous, natural finish. Great for all skin types and comes in 12 shades (FINALLY a drugstore foundation that caters for varied skin tones!).
I filmed a first impressions tutorial for this product as well as a few Colour Pop items but that will only be on my channel later in the month so I thought I’d jot down my thoughts here before that goes up.
So to begin with, I have very normal, combination skin – gets oily throughout the day in my t-zone and is sometimes dry on my cheeks depending on the season and the skincare I’m currently using.
PRODUCT PACKAGING: This foundation comes in a simple compact with a little round, flat makeup puff, underneath that there’s a small cap that locks the foundation in so the sponge doesn’t dry out and the foundation soaked into a sponge (hence the ‘cushion’) at the bottom. I initially thought I was going to hate the applicator puff that comes with this product but surprisingly I’m enjoying it. Obviously it’s less than hygienic because I’m not too sure if you would wash the sponge but for now, I love it.
APPLICATION: You lightly press the puff into the cushion which delivers enough product to cover one half of the face. I weirdly like the process of pressing the foundation into my skin because I find that delivers a good amount of coverage. I like one layer all over my face and then a little bit extra on my cheeks to cover the redness. I’ve also tried patting my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge onto the cushion and applying that to my skin. I find that helps to blend the product a little bit better, but then again you can just go in with a beauty blender after using the puff to apply the foundation. I find applying this foundation with just the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge I tend to use more product & the coverage lessens.
COVERAGE & FINISH: The coverage is wonderful, but then again I love a light coverage where you can still see my freckles and my skin can breathe. I think they’re spot on with regards to this foundation being fresh, natural and luminous. My skin looks healthy, luminous and youthful which is what I look for in an everyday foundation and it’s luminous everywhere not just on the high points of the face. It is somewhat buildable in coverage, but barely. Obviously with the second layer you’re increasing the luminosity in the skin but that’s what I like about it. I find that I have to set this on my t-zone or I tend to look like an oil-slick by noon. I’ve also realised the the foundation takes atlas 10-15 minutes to settle into the skin, so bare that in mind when powdering.
RECOMMENDATIONS: If you have dry skin, you’ll absolutely love this and you should run out and buy it now! It’s going to give your skin the luminosity you’ve always wanted and the dewiness will increase throughout the day. If you are combination, you can still pull this off by simply setting your face with a translucent powder in the t-zone and the sides of the nose. I would also recommend carrying blotting sheets or translucent powder with you because the glow increases as the day progresses. Once you’ve used blotting sheets or translucent powder your foundation goes back to looking as wonderful as the first application. This will also be beautiful on more mature skin as the glow will make your skin look radiant and more youthful.
PERFECT FOR:
- Mature Skin
- Dry Skin
- If you like light, luminous foundations
- If you’re on a budget
If you’re in South African this foundation hasn’t made it’s way here but I’ll mail L’Oréal to see if they plan to bring this in. If you’re in the U.S/UK you’re in luck and can probably find this at your regular drugstore.
Let me know if this was helpful, if you’ve tried this foundation and if you enjoy this kind of review format?
